Parshat Nasso - Building a Fence Around the Torah


Rabbi Liebenberg explains why our sages of blessed memory placed fences around the Torah.


Note from Shmuel ben Shlomi: While fences are of necessity for our own well being and sometime protection; we must never mistake the fence around the Torah as being part of the Torah itself. When we begin to add more weight to the fence than the Commandments of HaShem that the fence surrounds, we risk the danger of idolatry, blasphemy and even unintentional transgression of the very Commandments the fence was intended to guard.
